The Accademia Gallery opening hours are from 8:15 AM to 6:50 PM between Tuesday to Sunday.

The Accademia Gallery is open only from Tuesday to Sunday and public holidays. It is also closed on Mondays, 1 January and 25 December.

Visiting midweek, especially on a Wednesday or Thursday, might offer you a more peaceful visit as compared to other days. Try to arrive as soon as the gallery opens or a couple of hours before closing time to fully immerse yourself in the experience.

Arriving early means you might have to wait until your time slot rolls around. Fret not, there's plenty to do in the vicinity while you wait; you can walk by the Arno River, and stroll on the iconic Ponte Vecchio, grab a gelato or a cup of coffee.

To see David’s statue in the best light (quite literally!) try to visit shortly after the gallery opens, before 10am. You can view this colossal masterpiece in the soft hues of the morning light, especially since the skylight is directly above it. You’re also likely to get good photographs in this setting. That said, seeing the David at any time of day is a magnificent experience.

Arriving as soon as the gallery opens i.e. by 8:15am, or shortly before the museum is about to shut (closer to 5pm) will reduce the chances of running into traffic at this popular gallery.

If you’ve booked reserved entry tickets, then yes, you have a limited time within which you must complete your tour of the gallery (usually 1.5 hours). Guided tours also follow a time schedule, although the duration may vary depending on guest interactions, crowds at the gallery, etc.

Forty-five minutes to an hour is usually sufficient to cover his top works like the David, the Slaves, his unfinished sculptures and more. Since the Accademia Gallery houses the largest collection of Michelangelo’s works in the world, it’s only natural to want to see this legend’s works first!
