A-Z guide to Accademia Gallery entrances

The entrance to Florence’s iconic Accademia Gallery is divided into three color-coded access points—red, blue, and green—each designed for different ticket types and visitor groups. Whether you’ve pre-booked skip-the-line tickets, plan to join a guided tour, or are buying tickets on the spot, knowing where to queue can save you time and hassle. Our guide breaks down what each entrance point means and helps you choose the right line so you can spend less time outside and more time admiring Michelangelo’s David.

Accademia Gallery is located at the heart of Florence and can be easily accessed from every area of the city, including the Santa Maria Novella train station. The gallery is near the Piazza del Duomo, close to Florence Duomo and Giotto’s Bell Tower.

🟢 Green Lane

📍 Identification: Just left of the main entrance—marked as “green point” for guides and groups.

Best for: Guided tours, hosted entry holders.

👥 Crowds: Usually minimal; queue forms only if multiple groups arrive simultaneously.

Avg wait time: Around 5–15 minutes, group size dependent.

Accessibility: Group-friendly, step-free access. Guide ensures smooth entry for mobility-impaired guests.

Why it matters? Choosing the correct lane saves both time and stress. Guided/hosted access offers the fastest entry, while timed-ticket holders enjoy reserved entry. Even then, security checks are mandatory (10–30 minutes), regardless of ticket type.

The main entrance on Via Ricasoli 58/60 is fully accessible, with step-free entry and a spacious ticket/security area. Wheelchair users and one companion enter free with valid disability ID.

All exhibition halls are accessible via ramps and elevators, with tactile signage, Braille, and high-contrast lettering for visually impaired visitors. Accessible restrooms are available near the lift. Assistance dogs are welcome.

Museum staff are trained to help, and many guests report a smooth experience. To avoid crowding, visit outside peak hours (late morning–early afternoon). For extra assistance, contact the museum directly.
